Soft-Tissue Biocompatibility with High-Speed Precision
BioMed Elastic 50A Resin features a Shore 50A durometer, providing a soft, flexible feel similar to a silicone wristband. It is validated for applications requiring long-term skin contact (>30 days) and short-term mucosal membrane contact (<24 hours). Manufactured in an ISO 13485-certified facility, this resin is optimized for the Form 4B to print up to 3x faster, making it the premier choice for patient-specific wearables and anatomical models that mimic soft human tissue.
Key Features
-
Exceptional Elongation: Capable of significant stretching and bending, making it ideal for bellows, tubes, and soft patient-contacting interfaces.
-
Certified Biocompatibility: Tested for ISO 10993 and USP Class VI compliance, ensuring safety for medical device components and wearable devices.
-
High Optical Clarity: The translucent finish provides an aesthetic "premium silicone" look and allows for the visualization of internal fluidic channels or anatomical structures.
-
Multi-Method Sterilization: Validated for compatibility with Ethylene Oxide (EtO) and Gamma sterilization, ensuring parts are safe for use in clinical settings.
Ideal Applications
-
Soft-Tissue Anatomical Models: Realistic models for cardiovascular or gastrointestinal surgical planning and simulation.
-
Patient-Specific Wearables: Soft-touch straps, gaskets, and skin-contacting interfaces for respiratory or orthopedic devices.
-
Medical Tubing & Bellows: Flexible, air-tight connectors for medical equipment that must expand and contract frequently.
-
Grips & Overmolds: Ergonomic, soft-touch covers for handheld medical instruments.
-
Surgical Training Phantoms: Durable, soft-tissue models that can be manipulated or sutured during medical training.
FAQ
How does this differ from BioMed Flex 80A?
BioMed Elastic 50A is much softer and more stretchy (Shore 50A), similar to a silicone band. BioMed Flex 80A is much firmer (Shore 80A), similar to a tire tread or hard rubber.
Is it compatible with steam sterilization (Autoclave)?
Unlike BioMed Flex 80A, BioMed Elastic 50A is not validated for autoclave sterilization. For parts requiring sterilization, we recommend using Ethylene Oxide (EtO) or Gamma radiation.
Do I need a special build platform?
We strongly recommend using the Build Platform 2 for the Form 4. Because soft materials can be difficult to remove, the Flex-Release technology allows you to remove parts without using metal scrapers that could tear the delicate resin.
