High-Impact, Low-Friction, and Biocompatible Excellence
BioMed Durable Resin is a unique material that combines the toughness of an industrial thermoplastic with the safety certifications of a medical-grade resin. It is validated for long-term skin contact (>30 days) and short-term mucosal membrane contact (<24 hours). On the Form 4B, this resin prints up to 4x faster than previous generations, making it the ideal choice for patient-specific instruments and medical device housings that require a balance of strength and ductility.
Key Features
-
Polypropylene-Like Toughness: High impact strength and high elongation (55%) allow parts to deflect and return to their original shape without fracturing.
-
Low-Friction & Wear Resistant: Naturally "slippery" surface finish is perfect for sliding components, hinges, and snap-fit medical assemblies.
-
Certified Biocompatibility: Tested for ISO 10993 and USP Class VI compliance, ensuring safety for medical tools and wearable device components.
-
Multi-Method Sterilization: Validated for compatibility with autoclave (steam), Ethylene Oxide (EtO), and Gamma sterilization, maintaining mechanical integrity post-processing.
-
Shatter-Resistant Safety: Unlike rigid resins, BioMed Durable does not shatter into sharp fragments upon failure, providing an extra layer of safety for clinical use.
Ideal Applications
-
Patient-Specific Instruments (PSI): Customized single-use surgical tools that must resist impact and stress.
-
Medical Device Housings: Protective, impact-resistant covers for diagnostic and life-support equipment.
-
Wearable Orthopedic Bracing: Custom-fit, skin-contacting components that require long-term durability and "give."
-
Sliding Medical Assemblies: Low-friction bushings and rails for adjustable medical furniture or diagnostic hardware.
-
Living Hinges for Medical Kits: Sterilizable containers and organizers with integrated hinges that won't fatigue.
FAQ
How does this differ from BioMed White?
BioMed White is very rigid and stiff. BioMed Durable is more pliable and has significantly higher impact resistance, making it better for parts that need to snap, bend, or withstand being dropped.
Is the surface finish different?
Yes. BioMed Durable has a slightly "frosted" translucent appearance and a smoother, lower-friction feel compared to the matte finish of BioMed White or BioMed Black.
Do I need a special build platform?
The Build Platform 2 for Form 4 is recommended for all BioMed materials. For Durable, the Flex-Release technology makes it much easier to remove parts with large surface areas without risking the use of a sharp metal scraper near a biocompatible part.
